It's easy to miss how closely mental health is connected to physical health.  Sometimes, even running low on a certain vitamin can knock our systems off balance, including our attitudes or view of life. Get healthy physically and mentally by eating more raw fruit and vegetables, get into a walking group in your community. For more information on walk local exercise events, see the local planning for recreation, and get busy!

EveryBODY Workout! Soul Food Cookoffs and more!

Our organization meets regularly around the vital issues that impact you and our entire community. We are not only concerned about your overall mental health, but we know that there is a tight mind, body and soul connection. Please visit our website regularly for information on diet, exercise, meditation and all of the good things that can help us all keep it together. We live in a stressful society, but it doesn't mean we have to be all stressed out.

There are ways that we can protect ourselves through the right nutrition, putting aside special time just for ourselves, with music or reading, or self empowerment! We can do this together. Come join us, watch for our upcoming great workout videos and healthy soul food recipes (and contests, yum!) Into the future, we're also going to be busy planning our quarterly events, a healthy soul food cookoff. Contact us and find out how you can get involved!

 — African-American women are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications and about twice as likely to suffer a miscarriage than other ethnic groups in Harris County. The alarming facts prompted Harris Health System to launch an educational campaign aimed at African-American women before they get pregnant on the steps to have a safe and healthy birth.

The program, Women with Impact, focuses on improving the physical and psychological health of women

As a mother and sister with family members who have mental health disabilities, I am concerned about the kinds of issues that effect their everyday lives. We talk about living a good long life, but for them, the quality of life is critical. We assume in their disabilities, that they're just satisfied with being disabled, but they want to be successful, they want to have families, they want to have careers and their desires and wants and life shouldn't be any different than ours.

Our coalition's goal for each individual with a mental health disability is that we help in every way that we can to be an advocate for them.
